Oscar Winner Jeff Bridges: Old Goat + Great Zenowski

Jeff Bridges in The Men Who Stare at Goats

Jeff Bridges has been in many movies now, including The Men Who Stare At Goats, that movie from 2009 that was about the government sponsored program of remote viewing… albeit highly fictionalized and dramatized (as touched on in the main post).

Three other Bridges movies happen to feature him in “man against the system” roles..  Tucker, Tron and Tron: Legacy.  In Tucker, the Man and his Dream, Jeff portrays Preston Tucker the would-be automotive industrialist of the 1940s fighting against the Detroit and Washington powers that be… and unfortunately losing.  In the original Tron, a hacker (Bridges) is split into molecules and is transported into a computer. In this computer a mean program called Master Control behaves like a dictator. The hacker, who programmed a number of features of the environment he got into, teams up with a bookkeeping program and his girl-friend and together they try to replace Master Control with ‘Tron,’ an honest safety system.  There is a sequel to this, Tron: Legacy, with Bridges reprising his role (with some understandable twists and updates). A smattering of quotes from this movie at the end here.

It is interesting to note how this actor returns to these types of  roles that showcase the oddball underdog against the system.  Just the sort of thing that the concept featured here is up against, inasmuch as it is not exactly mainstream nor politically correct.  With the difficulties that a cause such as reform of U.S. health care experienced, is it surprising that support and funding aren’t exactly lining up behind this slightly-more astonishing hypothesis?

Tron Legacy Quotes… though the dialogue has actually been widely-panned by various critics, I, nonetheless, enjoyed the movie (especially for having seen it in 3-D for only $3.5o!) You may indeed get the drift that I think some of this banter segues nicely into what I feel about the greater import of the concepts on this  site.

Kevin Flynn: Now, I kept dreaming… dreaming of this world I thought I’d never see. And then, one day, something happened. Something… extraordinary.

Kevin Flynn: Bio-digital jazz man.

Kevin Flynn: In there is a new world! In there is our future! In there is our destiny!

Quorra: What’s next Sam?
Sam Flynn: Guess we’re suppose to change the world.

Kevin Flynn: Some things are worth the risk.

Kevin Flynn: Life has a way of moving you past wants and hopes.

Clu: Out there is a new world! Out there is our victory! Out there is our destiny!

Alan Bradley: Now he was talking about genetic algorithims, quantum teleportation, he said he was about to change everything… Science, Medicine, Religion!

Quorra: Their vehicles aren’t designed to go off grid…. All of your questions will be answered soon.
